Power Steering Pumps

The Power Steering Pump is the pulse of the Power Steering System. It is driven by a drive belt connected to the engine. The amount of flow of pressurized fluid depends on the speed that the engine is running. Inside the pump are retractable rotary vanes that spin in an oval chamber. The power steering fluid is taken from the reservoir and pressurized. The pressure is transferred from the pump to the steering gear through high and low pressure hoses. A pressure relief valve in the pump ensures that the pressure does not become too high.
